Growing Dahlias in Singapore: My Journey

Growing Dahlias in Singapore: My Journey

When I first considered growing dahlias, someone told me, "Ivy, dahlias can’t grow in our weather. They only thrive in cooler places like Japan, China, or Europe." I began to doubt whether it was possible. But then, I heard from a nursery that, like roses, many new dahlia varieties have been bred to adapt to tropical climates. Their advice was simple: "Don’t stay inside the box—explore new things!"

Inspired by that, I gave it a try. I had some medium-sized dahlia seedlings, but unfortunately, they all died due to stem rot. I was about to give up when a friend shared some dahlia tubers with me to try again.

Now, I’m thrilled to see my dahlias growing in Singapore! It’s exciting to wait and see how they develop over the next few months—will they bloom or not? If things go well, I might just add dahlias to my garden alongside my beloved roses.

Let’s see how this new adventure unfolds!
