If you're looking for a rose that's both beautiful and fragrant, look no further than the Chartreuse de Parma. Bred by G. Delbard in France in 1996, this mauve or mauve blend shrub rose is part of the Grand Parfums Collection and has an excellent rating.
The Chartreuse de Parma is a hybrid tea shrub rose with large, very full blooms that have over 41 petals. The bloom shape is mostly solitary, and the colors are a stunning combination of deep pink and lilac-pink. Not only is this rose beautiful, but it also has a strong, citrus, fruity, tangerine fragrance that will fill your garden with a delightful aroma.
This rose blooms in flushes throughout the season, so you can enjoy its beauty and fragrance for an extended period. The habit of this rose is upright, with a height of 31" to 35" (80 to 90cm) and a width of 20" to 2' (50 to 60cm), making it a great choice for borders or as a focal point in your garden.
The Chartreuse de Parma is hardy in USDA zone 5b and warmer and can be used for cut flowers or in your garden. However, it's important to protect tender new spring growth from hard freezes that may cause canker, die-back, and even death of the plant. Spring pruning is necessary, where old canes and dead or diseased wood should be removed, and canes that cross should be cut back. In warmer climates, the remaining canes should be cut back by about one-third, while in colder areas, a little more pruning may be necessary.
The Chartreuse de Parma is the result of breeding between Yves Piaget ® and Nuit d'Orient ®, two outstanding roses. With its stunning color, beautiful bloom shape, and strong fragrance, this rose is a must-have for any garden. Just remember to provide spring freeze protection, and you'll be rewarded with a stunning and fragrant display for years to come.
