The Traviata rose is a dark red Hybrid Tea variety developed by Alain Meilland in France before 1997. It was introduced to the United States by Conard-Pyle (Star Roses) in 1997 and is known for its beautiful, very full dark red blooms with a darker reverse. The flowers have 100 to 110 petals and an average diameter of 2.75", and have a medium to large, cupped, old-fashioned, quartered form. They are cluster-flowered and bloom in flushes throughout the season.
The Traviata rose is an upright plant with medium thorns or prickles and large, semi-glossy, dark green, dense foliage. It grows to a height of 43" to 47" (110 to 120cm) and is suitable for growing in USDA zone 7b and warmer. It is known for its disease resistance and is suitable for use as a cut flower or in the garden. It should be pruned in the spring by removing old canes, dead or diseased wood, and canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third, while in colder areas you may need to prune a little more. The Traviata rose can be grown in the ground or in a container, although the container will require winter protection.
The Traviata rose is the result of a cross between the seedling Porta Nigra and Paola (HT, Tantau, 1982) , with the pollen parent being William Shakespeare ® (shrub, Austin 1987). It is protected by patents in the United States. It was first sold in the USA in Mar 1999. If you are looking for a beautiful and vibrant russet rose for your garden, the Travia rose is worth considering.

Airlayering rooted roses takes 6 to 8 weeks to grow and start producing first flower. They are much cheaper than bareroots, however, they require more attention and skills for take care of them.
