It was introduced to Australia by Northampton Nurseries in 1861. This rose is known for its beautiful, double dark red blooms with a moderate fragrance. The flowers have a very large, cupped-to-flat form and are borne mostly solitary or in small clusters. They bloom in flushes throughout the season.
The Souvenir de Laweson Gower rose is a spreading plant with armed thorns or prickles, growing to a height of up to 39" (up to 100cm). It is suitable for growing in USDA zones 6b through 9b, and is known for its disease resistance. The patent status of this variety is currently unknown.
